At The Auctions
Re: At The Auctions
CCA had mixed results.
The one owner, 24,000 mile old, single tank 65 Austin Cooper S was only bid to £40,000, so was a no sale
The Mk3S with an interesting story was only bid to £19,200, so again a no sale
The 65 Austin built for competition sold on the hammer at £19,500, with fees the buyer paid £22,074.
And finally the Britt Ekland Cooper Sport made £17,000 on the hammer, so with fees that makes £19,244.
Watching the auction I think that '60s and '70s cars are on a slight downward trend but 1980's and 90's stuff is on the rise. Must be the changing demographic of those with money to spend.

Re: At The Auctions
So some guy from Cambs says he has it in 2020, and someone else selling it on Ebay says he's had it from new, been in the same garage since 1965 in Hertfordshire even though it was registered in Oxfordshire.
Righto then.
Righto then.

Re: At The Auctions
An attractive and very sound-looking car; I would love to own it. BUT...24,000 miles? OK the car is 57 years old but unless it has been exposed to the elements for a great deal of that time, why would the paint have suffered as badly as it has? The steering wheel looks well used and why would the carpets have been replaced? I would love to study the MOT certificates which are referred to; I wouldn't mind betting there is a big chunk of early ones missing. The engine has been rebuilt, hmm, fair enough. I think a bid of £40,000 is very good.

Re: At The Auctions
Great car, would love t own it, think saw it a Goodwood carpark in 2019 and admired it.
Doesn't seem to be with original owner anymore and I think its a bit difficult to price, hence it seems to be rattling around the dealers as they think its maybe worth more than it is.
As almost a museum piece, if history is correct.... it would be terrible to restore it and lose the patina, so what do you do with it, put it in storage ?
Between £30K and £40K seems more realistic - if more, who is the market ?

Re: At The Auctions
Is it as original as claimed though?? I'm pretty sure that the front panel (at least) has been replaced with a later one and the body number held on with screws

Re: At The Auctions
Description says " engine upgraded 1973 / 74 ". In reality the engine number reads 38G 464- RS- 65886. That seems to be a factory replacement on my list of " 1275cc Introduced in 1970." The engine number on CCA auction listing is 35532. ( Presume that is the suffix of the original engine taken from the V5 ). All very misleading. Car is plainly not what it first seems.

Re: At The Auctions
So clearly the person selling it isn't the original owner, he has just cribbed from presumably a communication from the actual original owner, so is basically misleading everyone in this respect. I know it's all too easy to be cynical but why would someone do this other than to gain financially ?. Interesting too see if anyone contacts the seller to see what the real story is.Andrew1967 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 12, 2021 10:04 am The 65 S is on ebay ... £57k ...

Re: At The Auctions
Lovely. A very subtle "upgraded" car. Very much a period piece isn't it. I'd be proud to own that.wantafaster1 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 7:34 pm https://www.evoke-classics.com/consignm ... per-s-mki/

Re: At The Auctions
Why do they always turn up when you've just filled the empty garage space with something else ?. I'd still be skeptical about the condition inside the sill sections though, unless it's been in a dehumidifed garage for 56 years. Nonetheless what a nice original car.Metronick wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 10:16 am Not a Mini but a nice little MG1100 at Barons Christmas auction today…..
