Early Mini heater valve on Flea Bay

Post by 360gts »

Just a heads up...there is n early heater valve on Flea Bay that is advertised as an early MINI valve.
I have asked the seller to change the ad...so far he/she hasn't done that.
This is an MGB valve...not suitable for the mini.

I'm curious about this - I thought the MGB part has the spigot at 90° to the base (pointing toward the flywheel), whereas the early mini version has it pointing right (toward the exhaust side), and the A40 has it pointing left (toward the plugs side).

Is there some other difference that I'm overlooking?

No, this is an MGB valve. The Mini valve leans away from the studs (so the fixings are visible when viewed from above). This was to provide clearance to the rocker cover. The MGB one does not need this clearance so is vertical.

I think it will fit an A series (just) but you will not be able to get the rocker cover off to check your valve clearances....

I'm not saying it is a Mini one, but looking at pic two it does look like it will sit at an angle.

The early Mini Heater Valve looks to be made up of two parts .. the top screws into its angled base..that base then bolts onto the head using the two head studs..( i have one somewhere came off a 1961 850)

Gawd knows what it'll operate like or how good the diaphragm seal is now that it's been through what looks like a ferocious cycle of sand blasting

Well, I guess someone just paid £82 / $110 for it, so I hope it fits!
I do need one for my car, but nowhere near that badly...

I've just found some of my valve old bits and there is one correct one in there thankfully, and will strip another similar (moggie one maybe??) to check out how they work soon ;-)

These are fairly easy to rebuild if you have a core, strip a new non correct one and use it as a kit. I rebuild Rolls-Royce ones this way as RR want $250.00 for a valve but all the parts fit from a MGB one....................
