It's a 1954-57 Series II Minor speedo, kph outer dial and mph centre. Worth about £6 and a Mars Bar.

But very similar to the silver 120 speedos marketed by Speedwell in the '60's.

This is a tricky one isn't it.

I don't doubt that it is a "Make up" and is therefore not "really" worth the asking price. BUT it is identical to the 120mph Speedos offered by Speedwell & Alexander in some of their kits in the early 60's.

Finding the bits while not impossible is not that easy nowadays, I know I have been looking for ages.

So, I am sure that it is worth really good money to someone.

...but would it work? i.e. would it give a legally accurate speed reading?

It would simply need recalibrating. There are several businesses that can do this if you provide the right information. I have used JDO Instruments with success, but i'm sure others are just as good.

A couple of other points; The seller does not show the back of the speedo but if it's the Minor one, the mounting lugs are narrower than Mini ones so you would need spacers and long screws to fit it to a cream pod for example. Also the fuel gauge is of the non-stabilised type.
