Aluminium Weslake 8 port heads.

Post by Austin Costin »

Hi all,

I posted up the possibility of the weslake 8 port heads being re made, I have been in touch with the man who made the run of them about 11 years ago, Roger Williams in America.

There is still a possibility that this could still happen and he has requested all inserted party's to contact him directly, you can find him under; Roger Williams on face book : https://www.facebook.com/roger.williams.9041083?fref=ts

I will also put up his email when it has been passed onto me.

Cheers
Paul.

Hi Paul, thanks for pushing on with this, I saw the Facebook thread and Rogers info, looks good!

It seems that 25 heads is the magic number, and around the US$3500 cost.

I know my names on the list, how close to 25 did you get?

Are you suggesting we should contact Roger direct as well?

If Rich see's this, would Mini Spares come to the party?

Probably not as it would compete with their 8 port and Minispares would have to take a cut to be viable...... pushing up the price (understandably).....

I'd still prefer a group buy by interested parties, but can completely understand why Roger does not want to get hung out to dry financially!

Publicising the possible availability has got to be the best way to get numbers I guess.....

Cheers! :P

we wouldn't get involved really

they are a lot more money than the ardens, and I doubt that many people would really want one, as nice as they are

there is still all the hassle of what carbs to run, inlet manifolds etc

it would be interesting to see how one flows and what sort of power it gives on a know engine dyno though....

as a 'retail' product I just don't think that the production volume will be there to make it a viable project for a business to make a profit from it, sure, there will be one or two people who just want to build an engine regardless of cost, but most people now just want fit and forget - which is what the arden is (just about, there is still some hassle that comes with bespoke mini engines)

its a interesting item though, and lets hope it remains untainted from the bad reputation that the modern cast iron one had
should you wish, you can contact me on rich@minispares.com

The biggest problem with the alloy 8 ports is that they can't be used in any form of historic competition. So they will only be used on very special projects. This, as Rich says, does limit the market.
