I have heard of similiar scenarios when it comes to guns

Bitter divorces where the Husband has got a bit het up and holds a gun license, if he has been round banging on the door or the police have been involved and one party holds a gun licence the fire arms are sometimes removed till things cool down.
The best repairs go un-noticed

fire arms are sometimes removed till things cool down.

Or more likely permenantly.
