Radiator identification

Post by redrobbo »

I have a radiator with a number on the side ARA1980 with date stamp 3 65
It has a longer filler neck for the 7lbs rad cap and it has a drain tap.
It has a "Coventry Radiators" plaque on the top and on the side a number "652"
Can anyone shed some light on it please?

Sounds like one of the BMC supplied original radiators - any pics?

I'll dig mine out and post up a pic.

3 65 means week 3 of 65, not March 65 like Lucas dating

Yeah i saw that info on the link you put on here.
I purchased this rad about 10 years ago and put it into storage along with the one off my 62.
I bought it for the Coventry tag on it.
When i got them out the other day i spotted the date on it and checked my 62 rad.
I was shocked to see 8 62 on it so means it's the original rad.
The top of that rad is copper. I used to polish it when i was in my early teens when my uncle used to own it.
I can never remember any paint on it, that's why i used to shine it up.
Were any rad tops never painted??

I can't find any paint on the top part of the rad even down in the grooves.
I might have dreamt it but i thought i had read somewhere that some had unpainted tops :?:

Anyone know what is the number 3013KJ on the Coventry tag is?

Not sure about the paint question. I've seen both.
