A discussion is ongoing on The Mini Forum on how a 1967 Morris Minor Van (see link below) is carrying a 1991 registration number?
Any ideas? One suggestion is it is a private reg, (as in 1991 numbers 1-21 were reserved for private buyers and not issued in general circulation) which can maybe be put on an older car?

Even if you bought a private reg number you cannot put it on a vehicle to make the vehicle look younger than it is . That’s the DVLA rules . However for a while when importing used vehicles they were registered by the DVLA with a reg number appropriate to the year they were imported not the year they were Ist registered or manufactured. That’s just typical of the DVLA rules .
I once had a MK1 Escort on a suffix V Plate . But this is so late on a prefix J plate . Mystery !

It wasn't maybe something used by the military with an MOD registration then sold off but never road registered until 1991?? I know with ex military Land Rovers (and other vehicles) you see some odd numbers on them? Some were Q plated, some, like mine were reg'd to the build date and I've seen others done to the actual year they were registered.

The owner/seller has replied to an enquiry from a TMF member and apparently thinks it was an error at the DVLA but that it is registered legally with a current V5c.

Does anyone remember the names on the sunstrips. I remember seeing a Mini in Liverpool Street, London in the 1990s with the number plate H15 ERS but can't remember if it had matching sunstrip. Might have been Wayne & Lorraine. No offence to anyone intended.
