Just cleaning up this engine from an MG 1300, there's light green/blue paint under the mid bronze green on the iron bits.

Is this just a primer, or does the car have some military history ?

I have observed blue paint on one of my engines. Where did it come from?

Seen it on a number of engines, assumed it was an undercoat or primer ?

I seen that light blue or green colour on numberous cylinder heads and blocks. I think it was the factory primer which seems only to appear on pre 1971 engines and cylinder heads :)
