"In this, the first episode of Car & Classic: The Rescues, can Chris Pollitt, and Richard Brunning of bad Obsession Motorsport, bring this forgotten 1953 Austin A30 back to life?"

They're brave !!

When I bought Gertie she would run but wouldn't stop - literally no brakes at all, and they're not reknowned for their efficiency at the best of times.

I assume its only on Utube - not TV ?

I know its heavily edited, but surely cleaning the points is a must to begin with, followed by flicking them to check they spark, showing they're passing current.

Here's a video of my pal Robb's old A30 at Knockhill (in practice!) just after he sold it and it became a racer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DY9UPiCNzCM

The car was rebuilt, and in fact raced in the St Mary's Trophy this year at Goodwood

Fun cars, but they do like to roll, A30s! A40's however are brilliant.

Reminds me of my A30 I built up a few years ago . Built on a 2 owner 30,000 mile car . First owner a vicar and the second was his daughter.
1293 built engine with alloy flywheel and roller rockers . 3 branch manifold and large bore exhaust . 5 speed type 9 gearbox . Lowered with sprite discs , Vauxhall FB anti roll bar , special frog eye sprite wheels and car completely rebuilt .
Great fun but you just felt that every journey in it would be your last , other drivers would pull out and change lanes just not expecting the turn of speed it had . I sold it and lived to tell the tale .

This A30 has sat here since the 1970's. Every summer it gets engulfed in brambles, and every winter you can see the car again.
