I have been working on a JAP500 powered something all winter, it is just about ready to go, but I have a big problem.

The engine was rebuilt by a specialist & all seems good, but whatever I try I can't get the oil to circulate. He has been very helpful, but we are just about out of options.

Does anyone have any experience with these antiquated motors or have any advice how I might get the oil flowing.

For reference it's a dry sumped version.

I no nothing about JAP engines .. However have a lot of experience with Mercedes Industrial Diesel Engines & we would never even turn over or start up a new engine without first applying oil pressure by using a remote hand-pump all connected to the engine using the engines oil pressure gauge port .. the hand-pump then pushing fresh oil backwards into the engine & then looking for the fresh Hand-pump Oil to appear at the rockers.. then it was Ok to start that Engine .. maybe a solution?

Sadly not.

The JAP is of a particularly primitive design & has some unique foibles.

But thanks for the input.

You might of already been round this loop, but thsi old book might help..

https://motos-of-war.ru/wp-content/uplo ... Engine.pdf

one of main subjects seems to be the oil circulation "gravity fed to pump......

its just a pdf scan so pages dont turn you just browse down page...

Thanks Ex,

Unfortunately I already have that & it doesn't help me with my particular problem.

Thanks David.

I'd really appreciate a copy of those pages if you get a chance.

I am still on with the people who built the engine at the moment, hopefully they will come good. If not, I'll be looking for alternatives.
