That photo was taken in Australia! BMC were one of the sponsors of their Australian tour in 1964 and provided 1100s amongst other vehicles to ferry them around! If you look at this footage you'll see what great publicity that must have been for BMC back then!

I know Lennon definately had an 1100 at home that was used for the school run and was one registration number away from the Radford Mini Cooper that George Harrison's brother Peter owned in late '65. (that's just changed hands!). The car looked completely standard. We're also told that Epstein bought all the lads a Mini but I've never found confirmation of that. I actually believe that BMC would have gifted the Fab Four those cars as they had previously done with a small number of other stars such as Margot Fonteyn etc.

The fact the we still talk about it 50 years later says BMC had the right idea, sometimes!

ADO16 and The Beatles images from the 1964 Australian tour have been doing the rounds since I wrote a "Newsflash" on the 10th September.....but this more recent post has even more images of The Beatles in the BMC sponsored ADO16's :D

There is no wnd up either :) :) ....The Quarrymen do still exist having reformed (not for the first tme) in 1997, and I am in discussion with one of their number, Rod Davis, to try and get something arranged with ado16.info international when they visit the NEC in November to play two sets on a 1937 AEC Matador flatbed truck on the FBHVC/Historic Commercial Vehicle Society stand - the only problem is Rod and I have no idea what the FBHVC have in mind between the two sets   .....and they're the one's paying for The Quarrymen to attend!
