Can anyone advise please - ADO16 front wheel bearings are I believe: 21A234 which became GHB211

and are common to:

Allegro (73-82) Metro (80-90) 1100, 1300 (62-75) Mini 1000 (80-84) Mini 850, 1000 (69-80) Mini Cooper (61-69) Mini (60-69)

So, what's the Mini Spares bearing that fits...and what is this:

I can see many have read this post, although no-one has replied. Yesterday I learnt that GHK1018 is the correct replacement bearing, although its quality can at times leave much to be desired.

However, I also learnt that the Timken roller bearing GHK1140 will also fit - let's hope so as I have a set on order from Mini Spares

I can't see the same front wheel bearing beingcommon across that range of models as some has small CV's & some had large CV's.

Allegro (73-82) Metro (80-90) 1100, 1300 (62-75) Mini 1000 (80-84) Mini 850, 1000 (69-80) Mini Cooper (61-69) Mini (60-69)

The one pictured above is a Cooper S item for large Disk type CV's.

I know Rich is having problems accessing the forum from work at the moment, he's the man who would know.

Rich was one of the people I emailed - no-one including Rich said this - now I'm confused :-(

I may well be wrong. I usually am, but all the following use a small front CV joint

Mini 1000 (80-84) Mini 850, 1000 (69-80) Mini Cooper (61-69) Mini (60-69)

http://minispares.com/product/Classic/D ... o%20search

And as far as I know these use a large CV joint.

Allegro (73-82) Metro (80-90) 1100, 1300 (62-75)

Ultimately I guess there's only one way to find out!

What I was told was that the roller bearing is used by many Metro owners, if that is true, then even with what you've written Mark there shouldn't be a problem.

I may be incorrect but I thought you could use the taper roller on all CVJ's.

In the dim and distant past I am pretty sure I put S taper rollers into my 850 mini hubs.

While the joint is a different size the drive flange is the same diameter as the large CVJ shaft.

What you do have to be careful of is using the correct spacer between the bearings.

The spacer is a different thickness and if you use the ball one on the tapers it burns the bearings out.

I can't see why the bearings would be different on the 1100/1300 unless the outer was different diameter (don't think it is...) because the external dimension of the CVJ in the ADO16 is the same as the Cooper S/1275GT.

I have used CVJ's from ADO16's in my mini's before without any issue.

I am pretty sure the Metro and Allegro CVJ external dimension is also the same.

I have a pair of S hubs here and a pair of late 1275GT hubs (1980) and the bearings in both are the same Timken part numbers.

Makes sense, as I said in my first post I was flying by the seat of my pants to begin with.

all the large c.vs are the same size and can be interchanged fine

the taper bearings can be using in drum brake cars, but its not wise as is they wear the spindle part of the drive flange it becomes impossible to strip the flange from the bearing as the inner race will just pull hard into its outer race - my gtm did this (with ball bearings as well......) and I had to strip it all back to front and smash the whole thing to bits with a lump hammer to try and reclaim the hub.

I guess 1100's and metros uses ball bearings as they didn't really have the problems that minis had with people running wide wheels and massive power through them, so the bearings and flanges where not really getting such abuse as a really hard driven mini can provide.

the 1100 bearing superceedes to the GHK1018 mini drum bearing

Sorry for not getting a chance to reply as I've been shopping most days this week for junk   I have replaced a number of front wheel bearings lately and I just contact Mini Spares and order Mini 1275 GT / Cooper S bearings and Bob's your Uncle, they fit the 1100 / 1300 no problem, I've never had any problem whatsoever I recall :D
