Did the black edge line tonight (vinyl, having considered doing it in Humbrol enamel for all of 5 minutes!) and loosely fitted the lights just to see how it's coming together.

On the whole, far better! Pininfarina missed a trick, I think  Much nicer than the clumpy original surrounds, but still very 'BMC' in style.

(of course, the grill doesn't seem to fit - seems whoever fitted the wings maybe didn't measure as well as they might have done..... But that's a job for another, warmer, night!)

ha ha, yeah, I'm going for bench seats for the full US station wagon look.

The funny thing about those is I bought them on Ebay and had my Mum & Dad collect them from the seller on their way home from holiday the next week, and then the vendor arranged to meet them in a lay-by just off the motorway.

in Mum's words "I think he maybe just went and stole them from the park and got us to 'aide and abet' him!" - apparently they arrived in a scruffy van, and left quick!

Mum no longer offers her services as a courier!

Having 'de-chromed' the headlights I decided the chrome grille was bit flashy, and for the period racer look, I'd try something else. my first plan was for OEW for the grille, but when I tried it it was too bright and didn't really work with the grey (but it looks OK on Austin Cambridges etc, which is why I thought it would be quite a subtle mod)

So instead, I decided to try red to match the wing tops. I think it works quite well, in the style of a early British saloon car championship as a pit identification method.

Of course, you can't get lower grill mounting panels quite as easily as you can mini panels, but I traced the shape of the rusty one on the donor shell and we're going to plasma cut one at work using the new carlos-fandango Swiftcut machine that can trace a drawn line by camera and then cut the drawn shape! well, we needed something to test it on, so I thought it only polite to offer.....
