Looks like you are having a lot o f 'fun' with your 2-door sports coupe. Maybe I should also start a thread on my 1300GT here as this is moving towards a disaster story like yours Rich...

Anyway, what year is your's Rich? I see that it has a rod change gearbox, was that always in there or did you modify it to what you had available as spare engine?

its a july 1970 - but I have no idea if it should be rod or remote originally

when I first got it, it had a complete rod change mg metro a plus engine in it

that smoked really bad, so I rebuilt it, only to manage to make it smoke even more (which is quite a skill, particularly when I got it bored and a new set of pistons fitted... )

I ended up rebuilding a 'ado16' a series 1275 that I had bought years ago, but put it back on the rod box and the verto clutch as that was all good. it still has the large valve metro head and a 731 cam that was in the a series.

its a great car, drives and rides nice, fantastic heater and the quarter lights are great for ventilation. the brakes are good (but I might fit a remote servo just to make them a bit lighter), the steering is light as is the clutch (due to the verto)

in no way is it a performance beast, but its perfect for just cruising along if your not in a hurry.

years ago I wouldn't have touched one of these with a bargepole, but I'm really glad I bought this one. I hate to say it, but its more pleasant to drive than a mini!

Rich's sports coupe now has a flat tyre.

It's beached on my ramp.
