Hi

Found this rare beast in Germany

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Austin-1300-GT-K ... 1630843671?

Is there any change it could have a Cooper S engine ? only heard about MG 1300 with EN40 B cranks

Best Regards Kristian

1300gt never had S engines from factory.
From a few i've put to bits, none had EN40b cranks, nor 1.625" big ends.
Still they have lighter rods and a nice 4sync close ratio gearbox ( laygear marked with "M/E" ), dont know why but all gearboxes were in great condition, almost as new gears and baulk rings.

Cheers
Luis

The one and only 1300GT engine I saw had the 11 "stud" head and tappet covers

It may not have had an S crank I suppose

I've never heard of an original (to the car) 1300GT with a Cooper S block either.

The later S, on the other hand, had a 1300GT engine. A 1300GT was also what you got if you ordered an S "half engine" by 1970 time.
According to Special Tuning, the 1300GT (and hence the later S) had a Tuftrided crank which was "good for 12:1" (one wonders why there was ever a Nitrided crank in that case...). I had this conversation across the counter there around 70/71 as to what you got if you ordered an S crank through the normal factory parts system. ST were at that time worried about where they would source a Nitrided crank in future.

I know a couple of people with very late S's, one is one of the very last made and was also one of the last available in the country when he bought it (he had to go down to the South West from Lancs to get it as there were non left in the north) and that's unrestored and got it's original S lump in it, I also think Ronnie (off here) had a very late one. I've never seen any evidence of any Cooper S having a GT engine in from the factory. I also had a Mk3 with a late Goldseal lump in it, that was also 'S' type.

cooper 's always had an s block, even if you ordered a service exchange from the factory it would come with an s block - not a solid one.

the parts books from the day show all the relevant part numbers for the various s and non s short motors

I spoke to Keith Dodd about this and he was insistent that this was the case as he used to buy them in quantity!!!!

Totally agree.

The whole myth of S engines in Non S cars & variants & Non S engines in S's is a total fabrication. Usually made up by people trying to explain why their nearly Cooper S has a non S motor.

i have seen a fair few 1300gt engines over the years,........ S internals is just a myth.

Gt's and Vaden plas all the ones i ever saw were always 11 stud blocks, but they were always solid cast at tappet chest area, and did not have bigger valves or fancy cranks.

But were 11 stud, and that is most likely how the myths start
